Waiting on the Jetsons

The cartoons of my childhood
Surely led my mind astray
I should have a flying car by now
And a helpful robot maid

But the potholes just got bigger
And the tires just wore down
Because we’re all still burning rubber
And leaking oil all over town

While we’re waiting on the Jetsons
We must have lost our way somehow
Because we’re waiting on the Jetsons now

The dishes in my sink
Well they ain’t gonna wash themselves
And the things we’re told to think
Seldom seem to hold up well

When we use some common sense
And we see that we’ve all been had
Weaponized against each other
By some billionaires gone made

While we’re waiting on the Jetsons
We must have lost our way somehow
And we’re waiting on the Jetsons now

In the past, good old George Jetson
Made the future look so clean
But the future here at present’s
Looking more like Soylent Green
And in that future, Charlton Heston
He didn’t drive no flying car
No he just knew the scoops were coming
When he ran low on protein bars

I suppose when I was younger
I was just a bit naive
To think that things would just get better
And not just age and atrophy

But I’ve got to clean this kitchen
My robot’s nowhere to be found
And I’m waiting on the Jetsons now
We’re all waiting on the Jetsons now
